Member Spotlight

Julie: I noticed you were swinging that 35 pound kettlebell today. Good work!
Kaitlynn: Thank you. I didn’t even bother taking the 26 pound out, because I knew you would yell at me.

“She works hard and never complains,” is how Coach Vicky described Kaitlynn when her name came up as a possibility for November’s Member Spotlight. As a coach, one of the most appreciated qualities in an athlete is being open to suggestions while also challenging themselves.

Kaitlynn mentions in her answers below how, as a teacher, she is regularly met with push back from students who are not interested in listening, so as an athlete she enters the gym each day with an open mind about how she can be better than the day before. And as coaches we are very appreciative of that attitude!

  1. Member since: October 2017
  2. After a rough week of teaching, what three movements would make up your dream workout and help alleviate your stress? kettlebell swings, air squats, box jumps
  3. Would you rather do 100 burpees or teach an extra hour on a Friday afternoon? 100 burpees
  4. What exercise would you use to punish misbehaving kids in your class? A lot of burpee box jump overs!
  5. How did you finally convince your boyfriend to join the gym? Basically had to nag him until he caved, which is typical, but he loves it!
  6. Many coaches suggested you for members spotlight because you “work hard and never complain.” To what do you attribute your no-complaining attitude? Probably because I listen to students complain every day and it drives me insane. I also genuinely appreciate being challenged at the gym, and will not complain about that.
  7. What everyday task has been made easier since joining CrossFit? Honestly, walking up to the 4th floor of the high school every morning has been less terrible since joining CrossFit.
  8. What is a change your friends and family have noticed in you since starting CrossFit? Multiple friends and family members have told me that I look healthier, and in much better shape since starting CrossFit. This makes me feel that my efforts in the gym are really working!
  9. You have mentioned that you have made changes to your diet since joining the gym. What positive changes have you noticed since changing things up? I see more results from my efforts in the gym when I eat right. I really just feel better overall, have so much more energy, and my clothes fit better. I recently went to the doctor for an annual checkup, and she told me I am down over 8 pounds since last year, and I think a lot of that is diet.
  10. Any advice for people just getting started? I would say just be consistent about showing up, and do whatever you can to get to the gym on a regular basis, the results will follow!
