Member Spotlight

March’s Member Spotlight goes to a member so devoted to getting in his workouts that he frequently wakes up in Georgia and is still able to make the 5:30pm class. Sharing the initials of the fitness program that we all know and love it was fate that Craig Frankel would find his way to CF13S eventually! As a consultant, Craig travels during most weeks, but still makes it a priority to make as many classes as he can while he is home. He has also found himself a home-away-from-home CrossFit down in Atlanta and regularly drops in to CrossFits around the world. This consistent effort is not only why Craig has seen such incredible improvements since joining us a year ago, but also why he was chosen for this month’s member spotlight.

Even though overhead squats and thrusters are still a work in progress … Craig is close to officially adding double unders to his toolbox. A friendly face who is always down for a good laugh, loves Dos Equis (click here for proof), prefers not to leave his “triangle of trust” (consisting of his house, the Lind residence, and the gym), was willing to bequeath his precious wrist wraps to the_mikedoyle if he got caught in the tsunami while in Japan and is frequently seen writing down helpful info he can refer back to in his notebook … Craig is always a welcomed addition to any class.

  1. Member since: April 2014
  2. Your favorite CF13S memory so far is … I’ll use the word “memory” loosely here but probably would be the first party at the gym. It was mostly a blur of booze and dice but when I woke up on my downstairs floor at 4am I seemed to remember thinking it was a good time with good friends. Next day…not so much.
  3. Being a world traveller, what is your favorite CrossFit gym that you have visited? I would say CrossFit 7 mile at Grand Cayman. Very intense workouts in perfect weather but still a real chill and supportive atmosphere like CF13S. Close second would be Chikara CrossFit in Tokyo due to the diversity of the membership.
  4. Your favorite movement is … Pull-ups, because they are the exact opposite of overhead squats.
  5. Do you prefer CF13S in the blazing heat or the freezing cold? I’d prefer freezing cold but that hasn’t stopped me from whining like a little girl this winter.
  6. The improvement that you are most proud of, since joining CF13S, is … My overall health. Regular intense exercise that I actually attend combined with my new diet consisting of coconuts and raw meat has given me significantly more energy and also dropped my cholesterol immensely (30% improvement, no joke).
  7. In hell, you would be doing an infinite amount of <fill-in-the-blank> reps. Turkish get ups straight into an overhead squat / front-rack lunge complex. Not sure if this exists, but if it did, it would be horrible.
  8. Your favorite spot on the rig is … As far away from Michael Lind as possible. He can get “handsy” when on the rig.
  9. What is something most of our the members do not know about you? I have my pilot’s license. I was flying planes before I could drive. A close second is that I have a vehement hatred of mayonnaise.
  10. Any advice for people just getting started? Start out lighter on the weight than you think you need to and focus on form. General rule of thumb, do 8% of whatever Randy has on his bar. Oh yeah, and overhead squats suck.
