Folks find CrossFit for a variety of reasons. For Eileen McCourt, our February Member Spotlight, it was to improve her golf game. In one of the first conversations I ever had with Eileen she said, “I’m going to give this three months and see how it goes.” One year later, Eileen has said “adios” to 5 strokes off her handicap and is still a regular at the 6:15am! This past weekend, Eileen said how she wished more people her age would give CrossFit a chance because she feels great and looks great (then flexes; see pic above) … and has not given up her ice cream.

Like death and taxes in life, you can always expect two things from Eileen. The first is that she will show up for the 6:15am no earlier than 6:19am, and if she does … buy a lottery ticket. The second is that she will always have positive things to say about her experience at CrossFit 13 Stars when asked. “I love it here. Joining this place was one of the best things I ever did. And it is the only New Year’s Resolution I have ever stuck to!”

Eileen and I were standing back and watching a class on Saturday and she said, “You guys should be really proud. Everyone loves it here.” It is comments like that where it’s easy to remember why we got into this.

  2. One word that describes your experience at CF13S is … life changing. Sorry, that’s 2.
  3. The first thing that pops into your head when you see the WOD on the whiteboard is … (as a bead of sweat forms over my brow) sickeningly challenging, but worth it.
  4. If your CF13S hoodie was being held hostage, how high of a ransom would you pay to get it back? … Oh boy, I can’t even answer that question, since I wear it a good portion of most days, if it were gone I would NEED to replace it immediately. Priceless.
  5. Where have you seen the biggest improvement outside of the gym due to CrossFit? Well truth be told, I’m going to turn the big 5-0 next month, so it’s safe to say I’m no spring chicken. Since joining, my overall energy and vitality, throughout the day, has improved 2 fold as has my golf game. I took 5 strokes off my handicap this year!
  6. The improvement that you are most proud of, since joining CF13S, is … I saw improvements within the first 3 months and continue to get stronger and more tone. Not only have I lost the weight I wanted to (without dieting) but I have completely changed my body. I have lost my arm jiggle and my back fat … ladies, you know what I’m talking about.
  7. What motivates you to keep coming back each day? The results, the trainers and the members. We all push each other. Once the WOD begins, we are “all in it together”.
  8. Your perfect WOD would continue which movements? Pull-ups, kettle bells, push-ups and thrusters.
  9. If you can single-out and identify any of Jenna’s music, what is your favorite song to work out to? Sorry Jenna, it’s all about Dan’s playlist.
  10. Any advice for people just getting started? This place is beneficial for anyone who wants to make changes in their life! No matter what fitness level you’re at, how old you are or your knowledge of cross fit (I had no idea what I was doing when I started this adventure), They trainers work with you before every WOD to make sure you’re comfortable and performing the movements correctly. Think you don’t have time? There are classes that are super early, 5:15am and in the evening as well. Just do it, life’s too short!
