My motivation for staying healthy is to enjoy as much time with my family as I possibly can. I want to see many more Holiday seasons and I want to spend many more Summers thawing out from these cold winters.
I know that in order to do this, I need to be proactive. I need to be healthy now, not after I’m sick. I see so many people around me frustrated with where they are currently at with their health, and year after year it gets worse as they are unable to make a change.
We already understand what does not work. We know that just signing up for a basic membership at the local gym and praying things will workout is a recipe for failure.
So, here are 3 tips to improve health + wellness in 2018.
1. Find some accountability – Workout partners and trainers are perfect for this. You need someone to make sure you stick to your routine when your motivation is running low. Early mornings, rough days, and stress are very effective at talking us out of doing what we know we need to do. Be ready for these obstacles by finding your accountability person.
2. Work with a pro – Personal trainers, nutrition coaches, group classes will all cost you more than a basic membership, but they will get you results MUCH quicker, making the chances of you bailing on your goals a lot less likely. You don’t know what programming is most effective. You don’t know the proper mechanics to get the most results from the least amount of work. And you shouldn’t, it’s not your job. But you should work with someone who does know these things. It’ll save you so much time and effort (and money!) in the long run.
***And most importantly***
3. Find your real “why”.
It is 100% cool to want to lose 20lbs so you look better naked. It is cool to want a 6 pack, but many times these reasons aren’t strong enough for us to turn down the cookie tray.
What is a strong enough reason is usually lurking beneath the surface.
Chronic Disease is the number one killer of Americans. Are you living in a way that is going to put you at risk for being a statistic?
Are you confident that you’re living a healthy enough lifestyle so that you will be able to see your children and grandchildren enjoy many more holiday seasons?
We can all make small shifts in our lifestyle that can absolutely improve your quality of life as time goes on.
Unfortunately our health is never at a fixed place.
Make your life easier AND more enjoyable by making a few good decisions now while you can, instead of when you’re forced to.
