HELPFUL INFO
Blueberries are considered a nutrient dense superfood because of all their health benefits. They are low in calories, but high in vitamins and antioxidants. Antioxidants decrease inflammation in the body, therefore they prevent cell damage, which will then protect against chronic diseases.

They help regulate blood sugar levels (help prevent diabetes) and they have both heart and brain health benefits.

They rank low on the glycemic index since they are low in carbs and high in fiber (3.6g in 1 cup!!). Foods that are low on the glycemic index will not cause a major spike in blood sugar levels and therefore will not cause a high release of insulin. This will also help with weight loss!

Studies have shown that blueberries may decrease the risk of heart disease by lowering blood pressure and lowering the level of ‘bad’ cholesterol. Heart disease is the #1 killer in America right now, so we should take every step we can to prevent it!

Other studies have shown that blueberries can delay age-related decline in brain function and improve memory!!

Blueberry season is from May-August but they can also be found year round in the freezer section of grocery stores.

Blueberries are delicious by themselves, but there are also numerous recipes for blueberries! Give them a try!
