As CrossFit, and similar programs, become more and more popular I have heard a lot more younger individuals interested in the programs talk about going into “Exercise Science” as a career or even a major in college. I never really thought too much of it until I read the article “Problem With Exercise Science” from T-Nation. To quote the article, “If engineering departments graduated people who built bridges that fall down, we’d notice that.” In a nutshell it says that if you are interested in personal training as a career, then major in an actual science, and train yourself in useful exercise techniques. Coach those techniques. Compete in those techniques. And then you will begin to have a good understanding of what actually works. Don’t sit in a class for four years with no practical applicability to training someone who needs your help.
